Diary, 1858-1863.

Early copy of John P. Bannan's diary of a voyage from New York City, 20 September 1858, via "Star of the West" to Aspinwall, by train across the Isthmus to Panama, thence by the "John L. Stephens" to San Francisco, closing with his arrival on 19 October at Columbia, California. The diary resumes 19 March 1862, when he left Columbia, went to Stockton, then to Portland, Oregon. He then made a trip, in compnay with several others, to the Powder River. After May, 1862, there are a few scattered entries about his movements until February, 1863. Relates his activities as a prospector until 1863.
